Trek Itinerary
The Jhomolhari Trek is one of Bhutan’s most popular high-altitude treks, ranging from 2,500 m to 4,930 m. It offers a diverse mix of landscapes, flora and fauna, and sweeping views of Mt. Jhomolhari.

- Trek Grade: Moderate to Strenuous (prior high-altitude trekking experience recommended)
- Best Season: March to June, and October to mid-November
Day-by-Day Highlights
Depart Paro early morning by road (3 hrs) to Gunetshawa via Drukgyel Dzong. After permit checks, begin a gradual ascent along the Pa Chhu through forests and into Jigme Dorji National Park. Camp at Soi Thangthangkha (3,610 m), with first views of Mt. Jhomolhari (weather permitting).
Overnight: Tented Campsite
Pass yak pastures and villages (Soe, Takethang, Dangochang). Local herders may offer yak products. The trail ends at Jangothang (4,090 m), marked by chhortens and fluttering prayer flags with panoramic views of Mt. Jhomolhari (7,314 m).

Optional day hikes offer views of alpine lakes and snow-capped peaks including Jhomolhari and Jichu Drake. Possible wildlife sightings include blue sheep. A recommended hike is to Tshophu, a high-altitude lake rich in trout.

The trail passes Nyile La Pass (4,890 m) with striking views of Jichu Drake and Tserim Kang. Descend to Lingshi (4,010 m), the last settlement in the valley. Optional excursion to Tserim Kang base camp for wildlife and fishing.

Cross Yele La Pass (4,820 m) with panoramic views of Jhomolhari, Gangchhenta, Tserim Kang, and Masang Gang. Camp near a stream in a scenic alpine meadow at 4,110 m.
Overnight: Tented Campsite
Follow the Thimphu Chhu River through a dramatic canyon landscape and cypress forests, crossing the river six times. Camp at Barshong (3,680 m).
After completing the trek, transfer by road to your accommodation in Thimphu or Paro.
