Beyond the Dzong: Jambay Lhakhang Festival Tour
Festival Focus: Jambay Lhakhang Drup Tshechu, Bumthang
Join one of Bhutan’s most sacred and colorful celebrations – the Jambay Lhakhang Tshechu in Bumthang. This 12-day journey combines ancient rituals, monastic festivals, cultural experiences, and scenic Himalayan landscapes. From the fire dance ceremony to the legendary Tiger’s Nest, you’ll explore Bhutan’s spiritual and natural beauty like never before.
DETAILED ITINERARY
Arrive at Paro International Airport. After clearing immigration, meet your guide and drive to Thimphu. En route, visit Tachog Lhakhang, and the Gagyul Lhundrup Weaving Centre. In the evening, visit Tashichho Dzong, the fortress that houses the throne room and government offices.
Explore major sights: Memorial Chorten, Buddha Dordenma, Takin Preserve, Green Weaving Centre, Kaja Throm, and the Craft Bazaar.
Drive via Dochula Pass, visit the 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens, enjoy tea at the pass café, and continue via Chendebji Chorten. Visit the historic Trongsa Dzong and Ta Dzong Museum.
Drive to Bumthang with a stop at Zungney Yathra Weaving Village. Visit Jakar Dzong, a historic fortress known as the “Fortress of the White Bird”.
Experience the colorful masked dances, nighttime fire ritual (Mewang), and sacred unveiling of the Thongdrel. A deeply spiritual and festive atmosphere.
Attend the morning session. In the afternoon, visit Kurjey Lhakhang, and Tamshing Lhakhang, sacred temples tied to Bhutan’s spiritual history.
Drive to Phobjikha Valley, winter home of the black-necked cranes. Visit the Crane Information Centre and enjoy a nature trail walk.
Visit the serene Gangtey Monastery, then drive to Punakha. En route, stop at Wangdue Phodrang Dzong.
Explore Chimi Lhakhang, Punakha Dzong, and walk across Bhutan’s longest suspension bridge.
Drive to Paro with a break at Dochula. Visit Paro Ta Dzong (National Museum) and the iconic Rinpung Dzong.
Hike to the spectacular Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang). If not hiking, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, Satsam Chorten, and Namgay Artisanal Brewery. Shopping time in town.
Transfer to Paro Airport for your onward flight. Optional stop at Paro Town depending on time.
